First place for investigative reporting for non-daily publications from the Heart of America Journalism Awards, 2004. Honorary mention for magazine reporting, Heart of America Awards, 2004 and 2006. First place award for features and a first place award for feature photography from the Society of Professional Journalists’ Kansas City Press Club Heart of America Journalism Awards, 2003.  Magazine Enterprise award from the Kansas City Association of Black Journalists, 2003. Two-first place awards and one-second-place award for column and investigative pieces from the National Association of Hispanic Publications, 2002.
